TDI or IANTD Diver Propulsion Vehicle Training

Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) Training is a specialized diving course that teaches divers how to use underwater scooters safely and effectively. These vehicles enhance dive efficiency by reducing physical exertion, extending dive range, and increasing bottom time, making them popular among recreational and technical divers.
Duration 2-3 days

Course Overview:

Purpose of the Training:

Introduces divers to the proper handling, maintenance, and operation of a DPV.

Focuses on safety considerations, dive planning, and navigation techniques.

Key Skills Taught:

Pre-dive checks and proper setup of the DPV.

Correct positioning and towing techniques to minimize fatigue and drag.

Emergency procedures, such as managing entanglements, equipment failure, lost buddy scenarios flooded DPV etc.

Advanced navigation skills for extended-range dives.

Battery management and post-dive care of the DPV.

Applications:

Recreational Diving: Extending the range of exploration for underwater sites.

Technical Diving: Assisting with long penetration dives, for cave exploration as well deep wreck survey.

Search and Recovery Operations: Increasing efficiency in covering large areas.

Prerequisites Minimum certification as an open water diver (or higher, depending on the course level).

A minimum number of logged dives may be required.

Basic buoyancy and trim skills to maintain control while using the DPV.

Course Equipment:

A DPV, which may be rented or purchased from the instructor.

Standard diving gear suitable for the dive environment.

Additional tools such as reels and surface markers for navigation.

Who Should Take This Course?

Divers interested in exploring larger dive sites with less physical effort.

Technical divers planning deeper or longer penetrations.

Photographers and videographers who want more stability while capturing underwater footage.

By completing DPV training, divers gain the skills to use these tools safely and efficiently, opening up new possibilities for underwater exploration and adventure.
